You Never Lose If You Choose God First!
“The Lord said to Abram after Lot had parted from him, “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring[a] forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.” Genesis 13:14-17.
This is what the LORD God said to Abram after Lot, his brother’s son, separated from him. God called Abram from beyond the Euphrates river when he and his father were idol worshippers. God asked Abram to make a clean separation from his idol-worshipping family and friends. God wanted Abram to follow Him, the living God of heaven, and go to the land He would eventually show him. Abram obeyed. However, Lot for some reason admired and liked his uncle and wanted to go with him to the land that God would show to Abram.
Now, as a result, God blessed both of them. Lot, his nephew who went with Abram was also blessed beyond measure with flocks, herds, and tents. Verse 6 says, “But the land could not support them while they stayed together, for their possessions were so great that they were not able to stay together.”
You see God knows how to reward us when we obey him and go with His plan. The blessings would be beyond measure. However, due to quarrels between Abram’s and Lot’s servants they had to separate from one another. Abram was not selfish. He gave the right to choose the land to Lot. Lot looked around and saw that the whole plain of the Jordan toward Zoar was well watered, like the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt. He loved the beauty and resources of the land and parted company. He looked around but did not look up to the LORD when he made this choice. He chose what the world could offer him and ended up losing all in the end. Instead, Abraham chose God and looked forward to what God could offer him. That was a better choice, indeed!
Now after Lot made his choice, LORD appeared to Abram and said our today’s insight. “Look around from where you are, to the north and south, to the east and west. All the land that you see I will give to you and your offspring[a] forever. I will make your offspring like the dust of the earth, so that if anyone could count the dust, then your offspring could be counted. Go, walk through the length and breadth of the land, for I am giving it to you.”
Beloved, Remember, you and I will never lose when you choose God first. Abram did not look like a winner initially because Lot already chose the watered and beautiful land. However, God said to him; He would give all the land of promise to Abram. Look north and south, east and west. All God would provide to Abram.
Moreover, although Abram left his family and household, God promised his offspring would be like the dust of the earth, unable to count. Always keep in mind, in the end, you will not lose but gain much more than you imagined and expected when you have the Lord in your life. Temporary setbacks could happen. You will have your share of sorrows, sufferings, and problems. However, in the end, God will reward you. Jesus said, “A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be poured into your lap.” Luke 6:38.
Dearly beloved, do you have Lord in your life as of yet? Abram obeyed God. Will you obey God? God is calling you to come to Jesus Christ, His Son, who died and risen again for all of your sins. Mark it! When you have Lord Jesus in your life, you have it all. You will lack nothing. First, you seek and come to Him, then all will be added unto you. All your needs will be provided by a good measure from the doors of heaven. Ephesians 3:20 says, “God is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.”
Got a moment for today’s prayer? Pray after me. “Father in heaven, I seek you and want to become your child today. I know if I have you in my life, I have it all. I accept Jesus Christ as my Savior and Lord. I believe He died and rose again for all of my sins. Please forgive my sins and save me. In Christ’s name, I pray. Amen.”
