You don’t fall in love; you chose to love!
“Before the creation of the world, he chose us through Christ to be holy and perfect in his presence. Because of his love, he had already decided to adopt us through Jesus Christ.” GW. Ephesians 1:4-5.
We usually hear the statements I fell in love as if it all happened in a moment with no choice from your side. Fell in love sounds like an accident on the way. Bible affirms love is not an accident; it is a choice. You can’t just fell in love. You choose to love. Not only is love your personal choice, but also love is a commitment.
Our Bible insight says God chose to love us even before the creation of the world. It was God’s choice to love, predestined, and adopted us into his household. NIV says, “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love, he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ” He chose to love the ones he would redeem from the eternity past, even before the creation of this world. God exercised His will and chose to love in Christ Jesus. You see, He did not have to. We did not have anything in us, deserving His love.
However, He chose to love. In love, he did three things – chose, predestined, and adopted us. Ephesians 5:27 says as God chose you in love and Christ would present you in all glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing, and one day in front of him, you would be holy and blameless. Praise the Lord. Marvelous truths, right?
It is the same with you. You love because you chose to love, not because you just fell in love with no choice of yours. Love becomes costly, precious, and valuable when you decide to love. It becomes your commitment because you chose to do it.
Bible says you chose to love God. God would not force you to love him. It is your personal choice to honor and love God with all your heart. If God forces you to love him, it may not come from your heart. Pure and real love happens when it comes to your personal choice.
Loving others is also your choice. You chose to love others regardless of their background, color, race, gender, or anything like that. God would not force you to love others. He wants you to love others, and that is His commandment. But won’t force you to do it. You see, love is a personal choice. God showed an example for us to follow by choosing to love us, not considering our merits or backgrounds.
Got a moment for today’s prayer? “Father in heaven, You chose, predestined, and adopted me into your household as your child in Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ. I understand that love is a choice. Let me love based on my choice and not merely considering it as a moment of attraction or an unplanned event on which I do not have any control. Because you chose me, Christ died, buried, and rose again for all of my sins and shortcomings. I accept Jesus as my savior and Lord. In Christ’s name, I pray. Amen.
