“Giving thanks is the sacrifice that honors me.” Psalms 50:23. GNT.
Today is celebrated as a thanksgiving day in the United States. I am so glad we have one day in a year that is set apart for thanksgiving. We are thankful for many things this year, don’t we?
Our today’s insight says giving thanks to God is the sacrifice that honors him. When we say thank you to someone, we remember and appreciate their help and goodness toward us. We say thanks to our parents, our spouses and our friends. We say thanks to people who show kindness and mercy toward us. However, much more than that we need to remember to give thanks for who they are. Not only for their kind actions, but also for who they really are. When we say thank you, we truly honor and respect people.
Beloved, did you ever stop and think giving thanks to God is the sacrifice that honors him? This is what today’s insights remind us. Like we honor others by saying thank you, we honor God by saying thank you to Him. If thanksgiving honors God, and this is what it says to us, then we should thank Him more often for small, medium and large-sized matters. Romans 1:21 says there are people who are not thankful to God. They are dishonoring God for His goodness and kindness toward them and end up in a depraved mind with shameful lusts and sinful desires. Just because their hearts are not thankful to God, He gives them over to such wrong passions and the resultant destructions. Do you see how important thankfulness to God is for a wise and honorable life?
When we remember and take an account of what God has given us, we will end up thanking and praising him. Each of our breath is a gift from God. You are still living is a big matter of gratitude. God loves you and cares for you is another reason for thanksgiving. God is good. He is merciful. He is gracious. He gave his Son to save us from our sins and grant us forgiveness of sins and everlasting life. He delivers us daily from many different dangers and problems. He makes the sunrise every day and gives us rain in seasons.
Not only giving thanks honors God but also, do you know it is God’s will for your life? Colossians 4:2 says, “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I heard many people saying ‘I want to know God’s will’. Here is God’s will for your life. Just thank Him more often. Amazing -when you thank him, you are doing God’s will and honors God.
I have read a quote that says, “If the only prayer you said in your life was ‘Thank you,’ that would suffice.” (Meister Eckhart). By being thankful and saying thank you, you are honoring God and fulfilling His will for your life.
We can be thankful to all God for all He has given in our lives. More than that, we can thank God for who he is. Of course, no doubt, what God gives us is a matter for thanksgiving. However, who He is and how good and great is He is yet another heightened thought for thanksgiving.
Today, when our nation has a day beautiful day for thanksgiving, let us truly thank God for who He is and what he has done in our lives and in our nation’s life.
I pray and wish for gratitude and joy-filled day today for you and your family.
Got a moment for today’s prayer? “Father in heaven, I honor you by giving thanks and praises to you from my heart. You saved my soul from destruction. You kept my life so far. I came to this world with nothing in my hand. However, you gave everything I needed in my life so far. I thank you for who you are. You are the creator God. You are loving, compassionate, kind and merciful. I know you gave your Son, Jesus Christ, for my sins and he died in my place and rose again. I accept Jesus as my savior and Lord. I worship and adore you on this Thanksgiving morning. In Christ’s name. Amen.”
