Christ delivers the kingdom to the Father God.
“There is one God and one Mediator between God and man, the man Christ Jesus” (1 Timothy 2:5). The only Mediator between God and mans is ChristJesus. Bible also says in John 3:16, “God did not send His only begotten son (Christ) into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through Him.” (John 3:17). Hebrews 13:20 and other related passages elsewhere gives a glimpse on the eternal covenant and it says, “Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord”. This agreement, for the redemption of mankind, was between the Father and the Son in the eternity past. Psalm 40:6 says, by understanding sacrifice and meal offering God the Father has not desired; Burnt offering and sin offering He has not required, The I said, “Behold, I come; In the scroll of the book it is written of me; I delight to do Thy will, O my God; thy Law is within my heart.” Hebrews 10:4 and 5 say, ” For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Therefore, When He (Christ) comes into the world, He (Christ) says, Sacrifice and Burnt offering Thous has not desired….. But a body Thous has prepared for Me…….”. In this eternal covenant with God the Father, Christ the son agreed to come into this world to atone for the sins of the people. Jesus by being the only mediator between God and sinners gave Himself as a ransom for sinners. All those who put the faith in Jesus Savior will be saved and granted eternal life.
Now Apostle Paul says what is going to happen after the thousand year rule and kingdom of Christ on this earth. Listen what He says in 1 Corinthians 15:24-28, “Then comes the end, when He delivers up the kingdom to the God and Father, when He has abolished all rule and all authority and power. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet….. For He HAS PUT ALL THINGS IN SUBJECTION UNDER HIS FEET. But when He says, “All things are put in subjection, “it is evident that He is excepted who put all things in subjection to Him. And when all things are subjected to Him, then the Son Himself also will be subjected to the One who subjected all things to Him, that God may be all in all.” Christ’s role of a mediator is not eternal. His role of a mediator is temporal based on the eternal covenant between Him and God the Father, until the end of the thousand year rule. God who is omniscient in His attribute, knew everything even before the creation, knew the fall of the man before it happened in the garden of Eden, already made this eternal covenant plan of mankind’s redemption, and Son (Christ) agreed to come down to this earth and voluntarily die for man’s sin. When the eternal covenant of redemption of mankind by Christ’s blood is completed, and when He has abolished all rule and authority and power, then the above-referenced passage says Christ Himself will be subjected to the One (God the Father) and God may be all in all.
Christ delivers up the kingdom to the Father. Though out the unending ages of future eternity, the triune God will administer the whole universe with His love, glory, and power. The children of God will share the eternity with the triune God in His love, glory, and power.
Before the new heaven and new earth come, the old heaven and earth are destroyed (2 Peter 3).
2 Peter 3:7 says, “But the present heavens and earth by His word are being reserved for fire, kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men.” Then verse 10 says, “But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, in which the heavens will pass away with a roar and the elements will be destroyed with intense heat, and the earth and its works will be burned up.” Verse 12 and 13 continues to say, “looking for and hastening the coming of the day of the God, on account of which the heavens will be destroyed by burning, and the elements will melt with intense heat! But according to His promise we are looking for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness dwells.”
Jesus predicted this in Matthew 24:25, when He talked about the end of ages. He said there, “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words shall not pass away.”
Thousands of years before the time of Christ, Isaiah talked about the same thing in Isaiah 51:6. It says, “For the heavens vanish like smoke, the earth will wear out like a garment…..but my salvation will be forever.” What an assurance to us who got salvation in and through the name of Jesus Christ. Another verse in Psalm 102:25-26 says, “Of old Thou didst found the earth, And the heavens are the work of Thy hands. Even they will perish, but Thou dost endure and all of them will wear out like a garment; like clothing Thou wilt change them, and they will be changed. But Thou art the same, And Thy years will not come to an end.”
All these passages talk about the destruction of the old heaven and earth and the coming of the new earth and heaven. Now, do you know why the old heaven and earth should be destroyed? This is the earth Adam and Eve rebelled and sinned against God. When you think about the original sin of our first parents, we also remember, this is the earth the Lord God cursed (Genesis 3:17-18). After the original sin and consequently death entered into this world. Romans 5:12 says, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned”. Verse 21 says, “Sin reigned in death”. This old earth and heaven have witnessed lots of sins, wickedness, bloodshed, cruelties, and rebellion against the Holy God continuously. The whole creation was subjected to futility, not of its own will, but because of Him who subjected it. (Romans 8:20). Paul says in verse 22 of Romans chapter 8, “For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth to together until now.”
But this subjection to futility and curse in the book of Genesis that resulted in the groaning and suffering of the whole creation will be lifted up one day in future, Bible says when God sets eternity in with His new heavens and new earth. The old heaven and earth have to be destroyed and the new heavens and earth will come in on the dawn of eternity.
