Palm Sunday!
This post is for general awareness about Palm Sunday for those who may not be familiar with this day.
The Sunday before Easter is remembered as the Palm Sunday. It reminds us of Jesus’s triumphal entry into Jerusalem. This significant event is described in all of the four Gospels in the New Testament in the Bible and they are Mark 11, Matthew 21, Luke 19, and John 12.
When Jesus entered into Jerusalem, he was greeted by crowds. They waved palm branches and shouted “Hosanna! They declared in a loud voice, “Hosanna to the Son of David. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!”
When Jesus entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred, saying, “Who is this?” The multitude said, “This is the prophet, Jesus, from Nazareth in Galilee.”
However, Jesus is more than a prophet. People cried out and said, “Hosanna to the Son of David. Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest!” This was the right assessment of the people.
Hundreds of Old Testament prophecies were fulfilled with pinpoint accuracy during the first advent of Jesus Christ. The triumphal entry was prophesied by prophet Zechariah about 450-500 years prior to the first coming of Christ in Zechariah 9:9.
It said there, “rejoice greatly, Daughter Zion!
Shout, Daughter Jerusalem!
See, your king comes to you,
righteous and victorious,
lowly and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
Jesus is the Son of David. This means Jesus is the fulfillment of the Davidic covenant, God promised in 2 Samuel 7:8-21. He is the blessed one who comes in the name of the Lord. He is greeted by Hosanna at the highest. Hosanna means adoration, and praise to the only one who truly deserves. Jesus was adored and worshipped. More than the praise and adoration, hosanna also means a plea for salvation. Hosanna means, “I beg you save, or please save or deliver.
Palm Sunday reminds all of us Jesus is the promised king who will rule the whole world as promised to David (the Davidic covenant) and it also means He is to be worshipped and adored and is the only savior of the world, who can save people from their sins and grant eternal life.
May Palm Sunday remind the world that Jesus is the King of Kings who is to be worshiped and acknowledged as the savior of mankind.
