Happy Christmas. The Deep Meaning of Christmas.

Christmas literally means ”Christ’s Mass, which means Christ’s remembrance. Remembering Christ or Mass or Lord’s remembrance by Lord’s supper which he instituted.
When you think about it -the deep meaning of Christmas does not just end with the incarnation of Jesus into the world. It may begin on the first Christmas day, but the meaning of it doesn’t end with it.
The purpose of Jesus’s coming into the world on that first Christmas day was to save sinners from their sins. The angel unambiguously declared it.
The angel announced the purpose statement of His coming to Joseph and it said, “She (Mary) will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” Matthew 1:20-24).
Jesus asserted this fact when he said, “just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” This is the purpose statement from Jesus- “to give his life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45). Ransom means the payment demanded and paid for the release of a prisoner or someone who was kidnapped.
Apostle Paul reiterated years after the purpose of Christ when he said, “Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” (1 Timothy 1:15).
John looks back what Jesus already did on the cross, and wrote in the book of Revelation this, “To him (Jesus) who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood.” (Revelation 1:5 (b).
In a nutshell, the purpose of Jesus’s coming was one and only one- to save sinners from their sinners. Thats a very comforting thought for all sinners, including me, who fall short of the glory and holiness of God. The Bible says the truth about all of us in this sentence -“There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” We needed the savior who would save us from our sins. All who would come to him and accept Him as savior will be forgiven, saved and granted eternal life in heaven.
You see, what men could never accomplish by themselves, Jesus done it for them. Jesus paid the ransom for the sins of you and me by his blood.
You see, the deeper meaning of the Christmas (Christ mass) can never be understood without knowing the whole truth about Jesus- that Jesus finally fulfilled His earthly life purpose by dying for sinners on the cross, by carrying their sins on his divine and sinless body. On the wretched cross, the people’s sins are paid in full and now he has the authority and power to forgive you and save you fully and completely because God raised Him on the third day from death. This is what Easter is all about- remembering the resurrection of Christ from the tomb.
Beloved, the deeper meaning of Christmas is not just in His incarnation. It covers the purpose of His coming, fulfilling his purpose by dying for you in your place for all of your sins.
This wholesome knowledge about the person and work of Jesus Christ drives us to our knees for Christ’s Mass – remembering Him with gratitude and worship during this beautiful and blessed season of Christmas.
