How can you be sure you will go to heaven and spend eternity with God?
A lady once asked this question. “Can I spend eternity in heaven with God?”. You have the same question, haven’t you? Do you know the answer is an emphatic ‘YES’ with no shadow of a doubt?
Read below and find out how you can spend your eternity in heaven with God.
1. A great chasm between God and you.
How can I go to heaven? God is holy and no unholy person can stand in front of His holiness. Bible says in Isaiah 6:3, seraphim called out one to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!” 1 Samuel 2:2 says, “There is none holy like the Lord; there is none besides you.”
The problem is we are unholy and unworthy. In our words, thoughts and action all human beings are unholy and do sin. According to google dictionary sin is “an immoral act considered to be a transgression against the divine law.” This comes very close to the Bible definition of sin in 1 John 3:4 which says, “For sin is breaking the Law of God.” Bible says in Romans 3:23, “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.” No excuse, all have sinned, period!
Listen what Bible says about our condition.
“No one is righteous
not even one. No one is truly wise;
no one is seeking God. All have turned away;
all have become useless. No one does good,
not a single one.” Romans 3:10-13.
Moses, the greatest leader of the Israelites wanted to see the glory of God and requested for it. The Lord said to him, ““You cannot see My face, for no man can see Me and live!” This is the statement of God. As we all are sinners and none of us are holy and hence no man is able to stand before God in this present sinful condition.
2. Not only great chasm but also we are accountable and punishable by our wrongdoings and sins
Not only we are unable to stand in the presence of God, the news gets worse. Because we do sin, we are guilty and punishable by a holy and perfect God for our wrongdoings. We all are guilty of violating God’s moral commandments. No one in this world ever kept all the ten commandments except Lord Jesus Christ. Each lie, each cheating you have done, each bad word and bad imaginations in your mind, each unkind actions, words or attitudes need punishment from a holy and righteous God. We are indebted to God and He will have to punish us because we violated His moral laws.
Based on the above two propositions, going to heaven and living with holy God is an impossible proposition apart from the help of God. There is nothing man can do. God should initiate the work so that He can enable us to stand before Him. Because we are unable for the task. Makes sense?
3. Our helpless condition was not a surprise to God and He already had an eternal plan in place for you.
This was not a surprise to God. He knew in His foreknowledge all about our failure and need even before He created the first man – Adam. He had an amazing and wonderful plan from the eternity past and it is called the ‘eternal covenant of redemption or salvation’. Hebrews 13:20. This is an eternal agreement within the Godhead in which the Father appointed the Son to become incarnate, born into this world, live in this world, suffer and finally die as a new representative or federal head of mankind so that their sins can be atoned by paying with His sinless and precious blood. Father promised He will raise Jesus Christ, the Son, from the dead, and exalt him and give Him a new group of people who will come to Him for salvation under His new headship. This is in contrast to the people living under the federal headship of Adam.
Do you know no one can save another person’s life?
There was no other way other than the blood of the Son of God because it is holy, sinless and perfect to find a perfect solution for sins of all the people. Read Bible says-
Psalm 49:7-9, “No one can redeem the life of another or give to God a ransom for them, the ransom for a life is costly, no payment is ever enough—so that they should live on forever and not see decay.” In other words, people are utterly hopeless because no one can save the life of another or pay God for their sins.
God took the first step for a solution and what was it?
Bible says when we were utterly hopeless to save ourselves, God Himself took the first step for a solution to bridge the chasm between God and you.
Romans 5:8, “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” God loves you and when you and I were sinners and utterly helpless He sent Christ to die for our sins.
Romans 5:6, “ When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.” You see when we were utterly helpless. How true it is!
Jesus Christ carried all of our sins on His shoulders and willingly died in our place. By dying for our sins, then buried and risen again from dead, God gave us the perfect solution for our sin problem that hindered our fellowship with Him.
When we were totally helpless, Christ willingly came down to this world to pay for our sins. Christ died for us on the cross, buried and risen after three days proving his victory over death and sin and appeared to many people (1 Corinthians 15:3-8). He took the punishment for sin that we deserve (2 Cor 5:21).
4. Recount all points once again
A. God is holy and no unholiness can stand in front of Him. “Nothing impure will ever enter it (heaven), nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life.” Revelation 21:27
B. No exception- all are sinners, Bible declares.
Bible says in Romans 3 that everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
C. Yet God, in his grace, freely willing to make us right in His sight because of His great love for us.
This is an amazing, wonderful good news the world ever heard from its creator.
5. God, Himself implemented His eternal plan in Christ Jesus.
How did God accomplish this solution? It says He did this through Christ Jesus when He freed us from the penalty for our sins.
For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. In other words, Jesus paid for all of your sins on the cross and now you can be made right with God. This is the Gospel called good news.
Romans 3 continue to say God was right in providing this solution.
Christ’s sacrifice for the sake of your sins shows that God was fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past. Why?
Because God was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time.
Why did God do this? God did this to demonstrate his righteousness because God is the only who is fair and just and He can make sinners right again in His sight when they willing to come to Christ and believe in His sacrifice for them.
6. How can I appropriate God’s eternal plan and salvation in my life?
This is a free gift and activates upon your acceptance and faith in Christ’s sacrifice for you personally. The free gift of salvation and eternal life with God is available now. It will be credited to your personal account upon your acceptance of the gift of God.
Ephesians 2:8-9, “God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. 9 Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”
Bible says in Romans 10:9, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” The moment you do this, your name will be written in the Book of Life in heaven. You become a Citizen of heaven.
Saved from what? Saved from the power of the devil to take you to hell when you die because of your wrongdoings and sins. Saved from hell to heaven so that you can live with God and Jesus Christ in heaven all eternity. God transfers your future address from a place called hell to a beautiful place called heaven. Saved from the power of sin. See, you don’t have any control over sins because you easily give yourself to sin. When you accept Christ as your savior, the sin loses its power on you. You don’t have to sin because God saves you from its power on you.
7. You are granted heaven and eternal life in and through Jesus Christ, your only savior.
Bible says in Romans 5:21, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The wage you earn when you sin is eternal death. Eternal death means eternally away from the presence and fellowship of God. See we still enjoy the goodness of God. He gives us food, light, air to breath, hope for future, health. All these are given to all in this world because we enjoy the goodness of the Lord. Think none of these good things are available no more for you. Not enjoying the goodness of the Lord – a place called hell- is the result of sin. But in contrast, but the free gift of God is available today and what is that? Eternal life in heaven with God and Christ. The above passage says where can I get this eternal life. It says, “in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
1 John 5:11-12, “God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life.”
This passage says eternal life is in His Son – Christ. Those who have Christ have the eternal life. Those who won’t come to Christ for salvation does not have eternal life.
Bible says in Acts 4:12, “There is salvation in no one else! God has given no other name under heaven by which we must be saved.” Dear friend, God has given no other name under heaven so that you can be saved and with Him eternally in heaven. If you would come to God in the name of Christ, you have assurance from God that you will be in heaven with God at the moment of your death. Christ died for all your sins- past, present and future. God who cannot lie promises and offers this eternal life to you now.
8. You can spend eternity with God in a simple prayer.
Please pray like this.
God, I know you love me and provided a solution to my sin issue so that I can come to heaven and live with you eternally. I accept Jesus Christ as my savior and Lord. I believe He died, buried and resurrected for my sins. Please save me. Amen.
