Divine Appointment- He had to go through Samaria!
Beloved, Jesus had to pass through Samaria because there was a divine appointment in God’s calendar to meet and talk with a woman in Samaria. Listen! the appointment was regardless of her background of five husbands in the past and then at that time living with a man who is not her husband.
Do you know Jesus wants to talk to you one-o-one?
Jesus began the conversation asking her for a drink because she came there to draw water from a well. She figured out Jesus is a Jew and therefore replied to him and said, “how is it that you, being a Jew, ask me for a drink since I am a Samaritan woman?” The reason was the Jews had no dealings with Samaritan in those days.
Jesus said to her, “if you knew the gift of God, and who is it that ask you for a drink, then you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”
The woman got interested in the conversation and said to Jesus, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep, where then do You get the living water?”
Then Jesus said these famous words that is very thought provocative for all people. He said, “Everyone who drinks of this water shall thirst again, but whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will become a well of water inside springing up eternal life.”
The women got really excited about the water Jesus was talking about because she will not get thirsty, nor no need to come all the way there to draw, so she said, “Sir, give me this water so I will not be thirsty, nor need to come all the way here to draw water”.
Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the promised Messiah who knows all about her and the only savior of mankind said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.” She said I have no husband. Jesus said, “you well said, I have no husband, for you had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband, this you said truly.”
Now she understood the man she is talking to is a prophet said to Jesus, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.” Then she also said, “our forefathers worshipped God in this mountain (Mount Gerizim) and you people (Jews) says that Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.”
Jesus replied and said a time is coming when physical location will no longer matter, because God is Spirit. and true worshippers must worship Him in “Spirit and truth” rather than in a specific geographic location.
Then the woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming (He who is called the Christ). When He comes, He will declare all things to us.” Her expectation of Messiah according to the OT prophecies and revealing all things are revealed here when she said this to Jesus.
Jesus said to her, I who spoke to you, I am He!
When you have divine appointment with Jesus, He will promise what He promised to this woman- the living water that you will not thirst again. The thirst for lust and all thirst for this world will make you only thirstier and you and I will never be satisfied with our thirst. But Jesus gives living water that you will become a well of water spring up to eternal life. You don’t need to go after the things that make you only thirstier. You will have well of living water inside you.
Secondly, He will ask you question that brings you to the acceptance of your past and that leads you to repentance. Repentance is not a bad word; it’s the beautiful word that unlocks all best blessings from God’s divine hand.
Thirdly, you will understand Jesus is the Messiah (the Christ) who can save you from your sins, by forgiving all your sins and granting you eternal life.
